Hi! I’m Sophie, and I write and photograph this blog and then enthusiastically eat everything afterwards. I love living in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, with my mustachioed bearded clean-shaven, tall husband Nathan and our wire-haired, miniature dachshund, whose name is Wallace. I grew up here, and I love the greenery, the produce, the wine, the farms, the abundance of berries and stone fruit and green beans and mint fields. The best foods to me are cheese, breakfast any time of day and Vietnamese, especially.
I used to be a musician, then I used to be a photographer. All along, what i really liked to do was eat. As a home schooled family of six, three tasty meals a day were eaten together at the table of my childhood, cooked with love by my awesome mom (with endless energy). As a kid, I loved watching Victory Garden with my mom, and hosting my own “cooking show” in the bathtub, pouring water from container to container while explaining “bring that to just a gentle simmer” to an imaginary audience.
I have a job in Financial Services for an agricultural cooperative, and even though I work a lot, I love cooking delicious, from-scratch dinners. On weekends I can spend extra enjoyable hours in our small apartment’s tiny kitchen, but ultimately the recipes featured here are for (those of us fortunate enough to be in) the working class: homey, practical and quick, super-tasty.
I’m happiest when I’m feeding my husband, friends, family. Growing up, food was the language of love. That’s why I get excited about it.
